The idea of this site originated on Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the Jewish year, September 23, 2015. The author of this site, our Kohane, was talking with a neighborhood health care professional who also has a Rabbinic degree. The discussion turned to the upcoming Kohane Blessing that is part of the Holy Day liturgy, and the details of when it is said in synagogue services and when it can be said outside of synagogue.
Starting with the belief that all blessings come from God, and that the blessing even makes it very clear that the Kohane is just a conduit for certain words, we eventually questioned whether it would be valid to have a site like this one, and we concluded that the question required additional inquiry. Clearly the eventual conclusion reached was that this site is a good and valid idea. Putting it together took a little more time than the original chat.
The site was put together by Noach, using a WordPress foundation so that it would be easy to incorporate journal entries in the future. Security is incorporated. Payment processing is not done in the site – at this time payments go through Paypal on their secure platform. We do not collect any personal details of credit cards, debit cards, bank accounts, paypal accounts, or any other financial information.
The site is not associated with a tax-exempt 401(c) organization at this time. As part of the site mission, funds generated will first pay for the upkeep of the site, and the rest of the funds will go to struggling families in Los Angeles. Nobody will ever get wealthy from this site. Please God, when proceeds through the site grow enough to warrant the accounting costs, we will establish a 401(c).
Almost all of the content is written by Noach Blaker, who often lets words like “I” and “Me” sneak into the content. The content is inspired by over 2,000 years of commentary regarding the Biblical text. I hope that I’ve been able to add something new and fresh.
